Waste gas during ferrosilicon production

The production of ferrosilicon using electric furnaces generates a large amount of waste gas, which can have a serious impact on the environment. By analyzing the causes of waste gas in the production of ferrosilicon, we can more effectively manage the waste gas to achieve the purpose of environmental protection.

The electric furnace is heated mainly by energizing the electrodes in the furnace to achieve a high-temperature environment. In the process of producing ferrosilicon, the carbon material is needed as a reducing agent. When carbon reacts chemically with oxygen, a large amount of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide is produced, and the alkaline raw material is vaporized at the high temperature, thus evaporating directly into the waste gas, which turns into solid particles when it is cold. And some of the coke ends and mineral powder that are not completely burned will be carried into the waste gas by the hot gas stream of vaporization and enter into the air through the chimney, thus generating a large amount of waste gas. These waste gas usually contain harmful elements such as sulfur, phosphorus, and nitrogen, which is why we find that the color of the waste gas is generally white or yellowish.

During the production of ferrosilicon, the waste gas concentration and temperature are constantly changing. The concentration of waste gas is low in the early stages of ferrosilicon production and then increases gradually. The concentration of waste gas is generally highest in the middle of the production process, mainly because in the middle of the process, the material is added to the furnace, while in the later stages the concentration of waste gas becomes less and the temperature of the waste gas changes as the concentration increases.

After an in-depth study of the causes of waste gas in the production of ferrosilicon, many manufacturers have started to treat the waste gas by installing filtration equipment or using atomization devices inside the chimney to reduce the concentration of waste gas and effectively reduce the impact on the environment.
